Grain Cleaning Services
At Caney Fork Farms
What We Offer
At Caney Fork Farms, we run a dedicated grain cleaning facility equipped with a Zanin PSC-5 air screen cleaner and a Satake FMS 2000 optical color sorter — the same class of equipment used by food-grade processors, right here in our community. We clean wheat, rye, barley, corn, buckwheat, field peas, beans, and more, and we can package finished grain in everything from 25 lb cryovac bags to 2,000 lb super sacks.
We also support seed savers. If you're preserving genetics for next year's planting, clean seed is healthy seed — and we treat it with the same care we'd want for our own.
Built for Regional Grain
Growing grain for human consumption sets a higher bar. Whether it's wheat heading to a mill, buckwheat bound for a local food co-op, or field peas bound for someone's table, the difference between field-run grain and properly cleaned grain is the difference between a product you can stand behind and one you can't.
For most small and mid-scale grain producers in our region, professional cleaning has meant long hauls to large commercial facilities — facilities designed for commodity volumes, not the kind of relationship-based, food-safe work that regenerative and regional grain systems depend on. We wanted to change that.
Our Philosophy on Pricing
We charge by the hour, and we offer our services on a sliding scale — Suggested, Discounted, and Supported rates — on an honor system. We do this because we want these services to be genuinely accessible: to the farmer running their first grain crop, to the miller working on tight margins, and to the seed library trying to keep rare varieties alive. At the same time, we're committed to covering our real costs so we can keep this resource running for the long haul.
If you're not sure what rate makes sense for your situation, reach out. We'd rather have that conversation than have cost be the reason good grain doesn't get cleaned.
Pricing Matrix:
- We have a 1 time suggested crop set up fee of $200.
- For moderate impurity grain at small volumes of 2000 lb or less you could expect to pay between $0.19/lb and $0.30/lb for your finished product which includes shrink.
- For moderate impurity grain at higher volumes, for 10k lb or more you could expect to pay between $0.13/lb and $0.20/lb for finished product, this includes shrink.
A Note on Custom Work
Every grain is different, and every cleaning job is too. The level of impurity, the crop type, the volume — all of it shapes the process. We'll talk through your grain with you before you arrive, so there are no surprises and the work goes as efficiently as possible.
